TURN UP THE TEMPERATURE – WINTER TRENDS

In true South African style, you might be fooled by the occasional ‘summer’s day’ that has snuck in between the cold winter weather. However, spring is still a while away, so it’s not too late to warm up your home and fully embrace winter days and all the (red wine and movie) perks that come with it.

If you’d rather go out than spend time at home when the cold hits, the following five tips are quick fixes to warm up your home:

  1. The perfect palette

The colour selection used in a home is one of the best reflections of the personalities of its owners, and can directly affect the way we think, feel and behave. Our Plascon inspired winter lookbook will help you to transform your home into a warm winter haven with nothing but a bit of planning and a paintbrush.

If painting your walls sound too drastic, incorporate winter colours into your décor with rugs, curtains, scatter cushions or a throw. You’ll be amazed at the difference that one or two changes can make.

  1. Bold statement pieces

Choose bold statement pieces for some added ambience. The ball head copper floor lamp is one of our favourites as copper creates a warm, intimate feel and adds a touch of glamour. Place this lamp in an underutilised corner of a room for an instant lift and touch of style. For a modern and contemporary ethnic feel, display your favourite greenery with this bamboo and metallic vase.

  1. A haven of comfort

Wrap yourself in cosiness and enjoy some me-time in your own little haven of comfort. If this space isn’t your bedroom, start with a signature piece that you can sit or lie down on. For a winter look, we love the Gozo rocking chair or the Colonial black hanging chair to enjoy a slow, easy afternoon in your favourite corner. Now all you need is a table or stand to keep your book and glass of wine when you dose off and a snuggly blanket to cuddle with.

  1. Tell a story

A home is at its best when filled with meaning and purpose. Curate your space with pieces that tell a story to create an authentic look and feel. Think of a few stories or pieces that you consider a big part of your life, and find ways to incorporate them into your décor. This can be done by hanging beautiful pictures, using a pillow in a colour you love or by strategically placing your favourite chair.

  1. Hit pause

We often get so carried away and overeager to only use the latest pieces and trends that we forget about the things that really make a house feel like a home. If this sounds familiar, occasionally take a step back and remember that the best interiors are often the ones that look, function and feel the best; the ones that bring your friends and family the most joy.
