SMEG: TECHNOLOGY WITH STYLE

Extra_Xmas2015_LifestyleCat_177Known for their iconic fridges, Smeg is the world-famous maker of household appliances that are both functional and very, very stylish.

The Smeg Story

The Smeg brand has been an icon of the kitchen for over 65 years. Founded by Vittorio Bertazzoni of Guastalla, northern Italy, today it is one of the leading home appliances manufacturers around the world.

The Bertazzoni family has its roots as blacksmiths before branching into kitchen building.

Smeg launched on of the first gas cookers with an automatic switch-on function in the late 1950s. In 1963 their laundry and dishwasher range was launched. The mid-1970s saw the arrival of the very first built-in hobs and ovens. The iconic Smeg retro 50s refrigerator arrived in the 1990s.

Today Smeg is run by the third generation of Bertazzoni entrepreneurs and still based in Guastalla, Italy, keeping the memory of its beginnings alive in its Italian name: Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla (Guastalla Emilia Enamel Works).

Over the years Smeg appliances have come to be seen as tasteful and elegant solutions to the demands of contemporary living as a result of the company’s partnerships with world famous architects.

The Design

Style is a distinct concept for Smeg.

“It is about the way a product communicates with its surroundings and enables users to interact with it.”

Smeg appliances take centre stage in the kitchen, the heart of the home and place where people come together. These appliances become the perfect, fully-equipped backdrop for many precious and enjoyable moments.

Knowing how to combine technology with style is the key for Smeg in creating products that become truly iconic.
